Waiting for the Tide to Turn

Waiting for the Tide to Turn

The rhythm of labour pauses; water holds its breath.

Fishing nets gather in loose folds across the harbour floor while empty boats rest against tide and timber. Beyond them, the water settles into soft monochrome light — movement slowed almost to silence.

Photographed in Porto, Portugal, this black and white fine art photograph studies the geometry of working harbour life stripped back to form, texture, and atmosphere. Hulls, ropes, shadows, and reflections become quiet repetitions across the frame, transforming a functional shoreline into something meditative and deeply still.

The monochrome palette emphasises contrast, structure, and negative space, making the image particularly suited to minimalist, coastal, and contemporary interiors.
