8 words for treatment. Cold compress, Aloe Vera gel & Lavender essential oil.
Yep, it's happened to me today. Me, an Aussie, with 25 years experience of living in the state closest to the hole in the ozone layer. I diligently put on my sunscreen today, I wore my hat & sunglasses....and went to the beach, socially distanced of course.
I was there for about 2 & half hours.
I came home and realised.......I'd missed a bit.
For those of you who don't know me, I'm pale, very pale & freckly. I burn in the blink of an eye....I'm not kidding. It's very difficult to get my vitamin D intake without burning. It's why I love living in the UK. I usually can enjoy summer without employing the full UV hazard suit. But not today. It caught me out. So what did I do?
I applied a flannel soaked in cold water, I applied aloe vera gel to the area, and then Lavender essential oil. No dilution. It's ok to put lavender straight onto your skin. Just a few drops. This treatment protocol takes the heat out of the burn. I have used it time & time again. You will wake up tomorrow and there may still be redness there, but it won't hurt as much.
But first & foremost..put your sunscreen on. The UK sun can be just as lethal as the Mediterranean sun. So please, as they say in Oz, Slip....Slop.....Slap....Slip on a t-shirt, Slop on the sunscreen and slap on a hat.
Take care & enjoy the weather.
