After many years of hearing family and friends say "you should do this for a living", I decided to take the plunge and start North Star Complementary Therapies.
Why North Star?" I hear you say? Well before the modern age of radio, radar and satellite there was celestial navigation. Using the sun, moon, planets, and stars to guide your journey. Whilst the position of the moon, planets and stars constantly appear to move, there is one star that navigators reliably find time and time again to get their bearings and set their course - the North Star!
What does this have to do with complementary therapies? I believe these therapies can be your North Star. Our lives today are so busy and hectic, we push our minds and our bodies to their limits time and time again. As a result our bodies ache, our minds get in a twist, and our emotions become a whirl. We find we lose our way and don't always end up where we thought we would be. We need help to get ourselves back on track.
I believe complementary therapies play an important role in maintaining our sense of well being. A body in pain can fray tempers, cause feelings of frustration, despair and at times depression. Likewise, a mind in turmoil can cause pain in the body. It's all interconnected, one always affects the other. That is why it is important to treat you as a whole, not a series of symptoms. Massage, Aromatherapy, Reiki and Reflexology can help you to reconnect with your body and provide with space to settle your mind and emotions. It's a bit like pressing the reset button, encouraging your body & mind to heal itself.
What I enjoy most about being a therapist is the look on people's faces at the end of the treatment. Their shoulders are lower, they move more freely, the stress lines on faces have eased, the physical pain has reduced, they may even smile. It is then I feel I have done a good thing, what I am doing is worthwhile, especially releasing a stubborn knot in a muscle, that gives me great satisfaction!
